What Is Custom Jewelry?Few people understand the true meaning of custom jewelry. Jewellers provide simple customization like, resizing of rings or a few gem stone options and claim to offer custom jewelry. Such minor modifications do not deserve to be included in the term 'custom jewelry'. True custom made jewelry offers unlimited options and the highest degree of customization and flexibility. When you talk about custom jewelry, the buyer needs to be given complete freedom. The choice of metal, gemstone, design and dimensions should be based on buyer preference. Any jeweler who restricts buyer prefence to a set of designs or a fixed selection of gemstones, cannot claim to be offering custom made jewelry. The reason why very few jewelers offer complete customization of jewelry is simple. Inorder to provide genuine custom made jewelry, a jeweler will need to have complete control over the entire jewelry production process. Access to massive inventories of gemstones will also be required to cater to buyer requirements. Most jewelers work with a very small set up and limited inventories of gemstones.
Most people do not buy jewelry very often, high gold prices is one of the
reasons for this. When you do go shopping for jewelry, you will expect
your personal preferences to be satisfied. Standard readymade jewelry can
surely not accomodate all your requirements. For example, you might love
the design of a particular yellow gold ring but, would prefer white gold.
A bracelet might impress you but, the width of the bracelet might be too wide
for your liking. In such a case you will need to either compromise on your
requirements or, go for custom jewelry. An interesting example is of a buyer
who visited a reputed jeweler in New York city and fell in love with a large
diamond ring. The design was right, the size was perfect the staff were polite.
The problem was with the price tag, the buyer enquired whether the jeweler could
make the same ring for him with a cheap CZ (cubic zircon) gemstone instead.
The salesman immediately changed his act and moved towards the next customer!
This is a common occurence as, most jewelers do not like to make custom jewelry.
If you as a buyer are faced with such a situation, do not give up hope.
Keep looking and you will find a good jeweler who is willing to make custom
jewelry for you.
